Please join us for a Community Planning and Buy-In Session to help develop and support the next generation of queer and trans activists!
The goal of the meeting is to talk through the idea, get input and support, and create next steps to launch the Michael Hinson Justice Institute.
In honor of our late friend and colleague, Michael Hinson, community members are generating ideas and support for an ongoing leadership development program that aims to train our community on effective strategies to:
-Build issue driven campaigns that create tangible results
-Raise and develop resources to support organizing, both the work and the people
-Educate and engage the community in ways we can hold elected officials and leaders accountable
-Increase allies to broaden the base of support for our issues
Michael Hinson was a pillar of the Black LGBTQIA community. We will talk about his advocacy work, what he stood for and how we hope to create a robust, sustainable and value-based organization worthy of the name, Michael Hinson.
Current community partners include ACT UP Philadelphia, Action Wellness, AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania, BEBASHI-Transition to Hope, Black & Latinx Community Control, Colours Organization, GALAEI, Mazzoni Center, Prevention Point Philadelphia and the William Way LGBT Community Center. This event will be held at the City Council Caucus Room at 5:00 pm on February 7, 2024, also known as National Black AIDS Awareness Day.
